Real Mum Series - Kirsten from Kirsten and Co

She is beautiful, talented, hilarious and a total sweetheart.. She is Kirsten Smith from Kirsten and Co

Kirsten is a Brisbane based mum of two who writes a lifestyle blog called Kirsten and co.  If home decorating, fashion, recipes, family life and a few laughs along the way are your thing, then Kirsten and co, is the blog for you!

Kirsten is a former early childhood teacher, a current blogger & graphic designer and enthusiastic exercise avoider.  In her spare time she likes to drink coffee, hang out on Instagram and think about folding the laundry.

What do you love most about being a mum?
Honestly, it’s the everyday mundane things that I love.  The school lunches, the school runs, the being there for them.   I know that sounds really boring but as they’re getting older (they’re 14 and 10) I’m realising that while the days are long, the years are short and it won’t be long before they won’t need me to do those things anymore, so I’m enjoying it while it lasts!

How do you stay balanced?
Well it’s MUCH easier now that the kids are older, although some days I do feel a bit like Mum’s Taxi At Your Service! But I make sure I take time out most days to go for a walk (even though I loathe exercise, I know it’s something that must be done as often as possible!) and try to do something that’s just for me everyday (even if it’s just a quick 5 minute coffee break)

Best real mum tip?
Always look down to make sure you’ve taken your slippers off before you get in the car.  Especially 6 weeks after having a baby when you might have accidentally forgotten to do this due to extreme exhaustion and only realised after you got to the shops, put your precious cargo into the pram, loaded up the baby bag, locked the car and happened to look down only to discover you were still wearing your slippers!

How has your style evolved since having kids?
I’ve always loved fashion and shopping, although when I was on maternity leave the budget was very tight so there wasn’t a lot of clothes shopping going on!  I’ve learnt that layering is important, especially when your children are small and have a tendency to smear whatever it is they’re eating on whatever it is your wearing.  Being able to get ready really quickly is crucial when kids are in your life, so now I pretty much have a uniform that I wear most days - jeans/pants, a t-shirt/shirt and a jacket/blazer.  It’s a look that’s comfortable and can be dressed up or down with different jewelry, a scarf or a different pair of shoes.
