It's one of the most exciting chapters in your life when you've moved from a far distance, to set up a new beginning with your loved ones. A new home is a template for you to build up a newer, better life. But before all that, once you’ve moved into a new home, temptation can be to unpack everything right away, but instead, there are a few of the little essentials that have to get done first…

Inspecting The Home

Firstly, you have to get down on all fours, and undertake a thorough inspection, not just so you know the place inside out, but make sure that there are no obvious signs of damage or danger. If you've not been able to see the home recently, then you haven't got a particularly up-to-date knowledge of the place. You may very well need to get an electrician to fix some faulty wiring, or there could be a leaking pipe somewhere, that, if left unattended, could cause long-term damage to your home.

Get The Place Secure

You don't know who has copies of keys to your new house, and if you've moved to an area that you don't know very well, it's unsurprising that you'd feel a little unsafe. But you can easily rectify this by making the home more secure, by changing the locks. But in addition to this, it's worth inspecting the property to ensure that the place is safe in emergencies, such as with smoke detectors, first aid kits, and a fire extinguisher.

Clean The House

Once these are done, it's time to clean the house thoroughly. After unpacking, you will be left with a lot of dust and debris, so it's time to get the place to a standard that you're happy with. Ensure that the surfaces are dust free and shiny, and if you are unsure as to if you have the time to clean the house properly, there are always professional cleaning services you can take advantage of.

Make It Child Proof

A new home is a new adventure, especially for the children! Childproofing your home is essential, not just in terms of installing baby gates, but knowing what the hazards are in your new home as soon as possible. For example, are there pointy surfaces that need smoothing over, or wires protruding out that can cause many electrical mishaps? Childproofing the house doesn't have to take long, but it's an essential part of giving you peace of mind.

Once you've got the essentials out of the way, you can finally sit back and relax in the comfort of your new home. Always strange during the first couple of days, especially for the children once you get used to your surroundings, but also make sure that the place is sufficiently secure, then you can begin to build your new life together. The first night, take the opportunity to sit down as a family, and take it all in. It's a brand new adventure, and it can be incredibly exciting, but just get the boring stuff out of the way first!
